February 6th Devotion

Matthew 27:22 (NIV)
22 "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" Pilate asked. They all answered, "Crucify him!"

Pilate did not want to be a part of Jesus’ death, so he allowed a crowd of people choose between freeing Jesus or a murderer named Barabbas. The crowd wanted to free Barabbas and crucify Jesus. It is hard to imagine how guilty these people are. After all, they betrayed God and in fact demanded his death.

Jump ahead around 2,000 years and you will find a twenty eight year old sinner, who had become aware of his own guilt. The first time I read this, I was deeply saddened by the crowd. How strange it is that their cry for the crucifixion of Jesus was to my advantage. Had Jesus not been crucified then, I would not be saved now! How terrible it truly is that He had to die for me and you.

The lives we led and sometimes fall back into, demands no less than that wicked crowd. The sins committed by our own desires, cries back to that fateful day. “Crucify Him”.

James 2:10 (NIV)
10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Love, Pastor Don
