February 17th Devotion

Numbers 3:11-13 (NIV)
11 The LORD also said to Moses, 12 "I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine, 13 for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether man or animal. They are to be mine. I am the LORD."

When God delivered the children of Israel from Egypt, He claimed the firstborn sons of the Levites to be His priests. He declared them to be His.

When he saved us out of sin, he made the same claim.

Revelation 1:5-6 (NIV)
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

One of the functions of the priest is to intercede on behalf of the people. God has chosen us to represent Him to the people, and the people to Him.

God, help us to see the lost as people who need us the intercede for them. Were it not for You, we too would be lost. Even as they are Your enemies, we were once Your enemies too. Help us pray for their salvation and redemption, no matter who they are. Amen
