Pray for Oikawas

Please pray for Kaori and Yasuaki Oikawa, the pastors and the church in Tsubata. Kaori was in an automobile accident that totaled her car, and cause her some injuries. They were able to purchase another car, but it can only seat five, and they have five children, plus the two of them. Her husband, Yasuaki, has taken on a part time job to supplement their income, and fulfills his duties as a pastor. You can see photos of them and the Tsubata church, in my photo section.

Homeless Ministry

First Thing: I need some large t-shirts and batteries of all sizes. You can send them to: Church Of God At Baden, 8373 North Broadway, St. Louis, Mo. 63147, attn Pastor Don.

Now, Ron, Trish and I went out for the evening, after Trish worked throughout the day getting prepared. She gathered two boxes of puzzles for Otis Woodard, and eight chickens to give out to people we met. Trish decided to make pizzas to give away, so she made seven deluxe pizzas, and bought a case of water.

I had spoken with a friend of mine that hold home bible studies, and agreed to meet him tonight. We met up with him at Vandeventer and Sullivan, where we were able to pray with a young man named Pete, and his family.

We then followed Brother Larry to Moffitt, where we met Minnie Henderson, and eighty year old woman who was housing a number of needy people. After visiting with her for a while, we pray and went on to feed homeless people.

We stopped and visited with Otis. We gave him the puzzles, pizza and chickens. We went to Sonny's and did the same.

After Sonny's we ran into Midnight. We had not seen him in several months. It was a good reunion and he told us how much he missed us. He had a girl name Snowlight with him. She seemed to be high or mentally ill.

Finally, we headed to the brickyard and gave away the remainder of the pizza. All together, we gave away seven. Please pray for all the people we fed. The have many unmet needs, from drug addiction to homelessness. Most of all, the need Jesus. Pray that we are able to lead them to a place where they will seek and find Him and salvation.

Inez Dockery

Inez has been home for a week and her physical therapist came to see her. We were told by the nursing home that Inez could no longer walk. The therapist had her take three steps. Of course, she needed to be held up, but her legs do work. She played and beat Trish at dominos, and is going to sit outside for a while today.

A Few Items of News

Inez Dockery came home this week. Feel free to visit. She is at the Sharp’s home.

We have about 80 people commited to the Jesus love feast this year. I need to know how many church people will be going and/or volunteering.

Paul Finke, Patricia Sapp, Deb and I, met with visitors from Idaho this week. Steve and Naomi Washburn are doing research for a book on the early IHP movement and it’s people. Patricia and Paul identified many of the people in the photographs that the Washburns brought.

News From Japan

You may have heard that Japan had a major earthquake this week. There were actually three. I wrote to find out any news, and the good news is that although many of our people felt the shocks, none of our churches or people were harmed However, there were two deaths and 5,000 homes that were damaged. Japan has more than 300 earthquakes a year, and exports give the nation a 90% chance of having a devastating earthquake within the next 50 years.

Friday was the end of there youth camp, but I wasn’t able to speak with anyone there. I did speak with Showkichi Ito from Seya, Masahiro Seki from Kasugai, and Mitsuru Ishikawa from Miyuki. You may remember that Showkichi and Mitsuru have both been to Baden. On another note, Japan’s prime minister, Aro Aso marking the 64th anniversary of Tokyo’s surrender, was joined by about 4,800 bereaved families to pay respect to 3.1 million Japanese war dead. He also expressed his deep regret for the suffering Japan inflicted upon the countries of the world.

Strong quake hits Japan as typhoon nears

We have several churches in the Tokyo area. Please pray for them.

Strong quake hits Japan as typhoon nears
11th August 2009, 6:00 WST

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 hit Tokyo and nearby areas shortly after dawn this morning, reportedly injuring more than 40 people and triggering fires while also shutting down a nuclear power plant and bullet trains.

The US Geological Survey said another, unrelated quake with a 7.6 magnitude hit the Indian Ocean about 257km north of Port Blair in India’s Andaman Islands.

A tsunami watch was called for India, Burma, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh. But the caution was lifted without any tsunami being recorded.

The Andaman Islands quake was reported to be 33.15km deep, the US Geological Survey said.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency also issued a tsunami warning from the Japanese temblor early today, which centred off the Suruga Bay, southwest of Tokyo. The warning was also later lifted. The quake occurred at a depth of 20km. Public broadcaster NHK said a small increase of waves of some 30 cm was observed along the coastline of Yaizu City.

The quake shook buildings and jolted people from their sleep in and around the capital Tokyo, a region bracing for the predicted arrival of a typhoon later in the day.

At least 42 people suffered injuries, public broadcaster NHK reported, but most are believed to be minor.

Jiji Press said three fires broke out in Shizuoka prefecture, citing police and emergency services in the worst-hit area, where some objects were thrown from shelves.

Four people were taken to the prefecture’s Yaizu City Hospital with minor injuries, including one pregnant woman, a hospital official said earlier.

“One of them was hurt on the head as some objects fell, but no one so far is in a serious condition,” the official said.

The Hamaoka nuclear plant in Shizuoka immediately shut down two reactors after the quake, the operator Chubu Electric Power Co said, with a company official adding that “no abnormalities are seen at the plant.”

Central Japan Railway Corporation temporarily suspended Shinkansen bullet trains in the quake-hit region.

Prime Minister Taro Aso’s office set up an emergency centre shortly after the quake, which was followed by 13 noticeable aftershocks.

Japan has recently been hit by heavy typhoon rains, and officials warned residents in mountainous areas to be cautious because the ground may be loose and landslides may be generated by the quake of aftershocks.

Typhoon Etau - which has brought torrential rains that had caused at least 13 deaths from flooding and landslides yesterday - was heading towards Shizuoka and Tokyo, the meteorological agency said.

“As the typhoon is approaching ... there are concerns about possible landslides. Please be vigilant,” an official at the meteorological agency told a news conference.

The USGS said the quake measured 6.4 on the moment magnitude scale, while the Japanese agency said the quake measured 6.5 on the Japanese scale, which measures how strongly an earthquake is felt by people.

An earthquake also jolted eastern Japan on Sunday. Around 20 per cent of the world’s most powerful earthquakes strike the country.

Homeless report for July 30, 2009

Wow, we were finally on the homeless runs again. This was the first one in several months. I have been helping my uncle with some classes he had to go to. Anyway, that is over.

Before we left, Patricia Sapp made pizzas from donation we received from Talayna's. Her, Ron Moore, Cindy, Junior and I, left around 7:30pm. Our first stop was at Broadway and Riverview. Several people hang out there in the evening, and "Brenda" was there. Next went visited a new stop at Carrie and Prescott, and talked with "Gene" for a while. He lives in a garage behind an elderly woman's house. We stopped and fed a homeless man laying on the sidewalk at Broadway and Prairie, then headed to "Randy"'s on Salsbury and Blair. Sonny is a recovering addict. I thought it would be good to introduce everyone to Otis Woodard, who lives and ministers around the Grand Avenue water tower. We had a great time with him and invited him to the Jesus Love Feast that is coming up. After that, we drove around looking for more people, and ended up at the "Brickyard" on Jefferson and University. "Sally" was still there. She is a young heroine addict and prostitute living in the yard since 2000, when her mother died. On the way home we stop at a friend's house and gave them the rest of the pizza. It felt great to get out again. See ya next week.
