Homeless report for July 30, 2009

Wow, we were finally on the homeless runs again. This was the first one in several months. I have been helping my uncle with some classes he had to go to. Anyway, that is over.

Before we left, Patricia Sapp made pizzas from donation we received from Talayna's. Her, Ron Moore, Cindy, Junior and I, left around 7:30pm. Our first stop was at Broadway and Riverview. Several people hang out there in the evening, and "Brenda" was there. Next went visited a new stop at Carrie and Prescott, and talked with "Gene" for a while. He lives in a garage behind an elderly woman's house. We stopped and fed a homeless man laying on the sidewalk at Broadway and Prairie, then headed to "Randy"'s on Salsbury and Blair. Sonny is a recovering addict. I thought it would be good to introduce everyone to Otis Woodard, who lives and ministers around the Grand Avenue water tower. We had a great time with him and invited him to the Jesus Love Feast that is coming up. After that, we drove around looking for more people, and ended up at the "Brickyard" on Jefferson and University. "Sally" was still there. She is a young heroine addict and prostitute living in the yard since 2000, when her mother died. On the way home we stop at a friend's house and gave them the rest of the pizza. It felt great to get out again. See ya next week.
