My Soul Groans

Good morning. Praise be to our God and deliverer, Jesus Christ. I heard that 8 inches of snow fell on New Orleans this week. I instantly began thinking about the return of the Lord. Not only will his children dwell with him for eternity, but we will have the entire curse of sin removed from us. I thought of a list of things that will no longer concern me when Jesus returns. Your list will be different than mine, but here are some of the things I am looking forward to shedding.
I will no longer need glasses, 6 prescription medicines, visit the clinic, hobble around on bad knees, have a constant ringing in my nearly deaf ear. Worry about my future medical conditions, my children, my family, my bills, terrorism, safety of my friends and too many things to remember.
I cannot help but look forward to Jesus’ return. All, and I do mean all, of my worries, concerns and problems, will disappear on the great and glorious day. My soul groans for You my Lord and Savior. Love – Pastor Don

The King Is Coming

As we celebrate this Christmas, we would be wise to remember not only Jesus’ birth but his return. As sure as you are reading this, Jesus is coming back. Similar to the Abrahamic covenant, around 2000 BC, it has been about 2000 years since his coming was foretold. Another similarity is that the Jews were instructed to keep watch, just as we have been instructed. Jesus was crucified between two thieves and we are told that he will come as a “thief in the night”. The Jews didn’t recognize Jesus because they expected to see a king and He came as a servant. He will return for us as a king, yet the king may be expected by some, to behave like a servant.

Finally, I would like to say that the Jews didn’t except Jesus, because He wasn’t what they created in their minds. Was must be careful not to make the same mistake. When Jesus does return, He will not be one of our possessions, we will be His.

Salvation - Second Advent

Isaiah 49:6 (NIV)
6 he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."

Too small a thing. Not enough to simply save those of Israel, but God is sending Jesus back to bring His salvation to the world.

When I was younger, my father taught me to look out for number one. When it came down to it, a person must save themselves. He did include a small portion of his family, but that was the extent of it. He once said that he could count the people he trusted, on one hand, and then noted that his mother, 5 brothers and sisters, wife and two children totaled more than five.

God, on the other hand, would have it that all would be saved. Even though He loved Israel, He included each and every one in His plan for salvation. When Jesus returns, he will bring salvation with Him.

What is your attitude about this salvation? Are you like my father who only looked out for “me and mine”, or like your Father in heaven, who would have none perish?

My father would sacrifice for precious few. My heavenly Father sacrificed for one and all. Who are you willing to sacrifice for?
