On God's Schedule

Last Sunday evening, we watched a movie during the evening service. Brian and MaryHelen had never seen the “Passion of Christ”, so that was the movie that we watched. I am telling you this because I would normally watch this movie around Easter. It is easy to categorize things for certain times of the year, but it is possible that we miss many blessings from God when we do.

I was so moved by the film, that I was actually flinching every time Christ was struck. I couldn’t keep the tears from rolling down my face. I know that several other people were experiencing similar things, because once in a while, they had to get up and leave the room. I became aware of how easy it is to neglect our Lord by putting Him on a schedule. Easter should not be the only time we consider His death and resurrection. Sunday is not the only day to worship Him or study His word. Prayers should be spontaneous. How many times has God wanted to use us, and we have been too busy, or it was not part of our schedule. We should be led by God’s holy spirit, not by schedules. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

John 3:6 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Been Worrying

There is a lot of craziness going on in the world. This latest news from Iraq about American troops being attacked by Iraqi police is on of those things that leave me shaking my head. Then the news about Al Qeda growing strong again only adds to the stress. I don’t know about you, but it is easy for me to worry about what is going to happen next. I have to admit, I don’t have the answer. If you tend to get worried about stuff like this, I hope this will help.

Matthew 6:34;Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Luke 12:25-26; Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Luke 21:12-15;"But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. 13 This will result in your being witnesses to them. 14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.

I need reality checks like this. Otherwise, I waste a lot of time worrying about what I am going to do, when the truth is that I cannot do anything about those things anyway. Here is something that I can do. Maybe you can do it too.

Matthew 28:18-20;Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Lesson To Learn

Deb and I went to Gettysburg, PA on the 3rd of July. It is the site of one of the worst battles ever fought on American soil. Over 60,000 men died during a 3-day battle. I was overwhelmed by this fact and began to think about the greatness of our country. What I decided was that we are not a great nation because we have always agreed with one another, but that we have remained unified no matter how much we have disagreed.

I believe that the American church could take a lesson from the American secular. The church seems to have no will to remain unified, even though we have so much in common. We prefer to separate and fight amongst ourselves. It is little wonder that un-saved people say that they don't know which "religion" is correct, when they are actually talking abut Christian denominations. Because of the great division of the church, we have elevated even the faiths that call upon false gods.

Maybe we should learn this simple truth, prayed by Jesus, so long ago; John 17:20-21"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me
